About Me
I am a software engineer, web developer, SEO, and former personal trainer and nutritionist. My hobbies include mixed martial arts, weightlifting, building websites, and reading books. I also enjoy cats and horror movies. Currently I am publishing a blog called Project Swole at http://www.projectswole.com. The concept behind FitConnect.com is actually an idea I had 4 years ago when MySpace started taking off, but I was going to call it Athlete Connection instead. Anyway, that didn't happen so I figure if you can't beat 'em, join 'em.
Here For
Social networking, straight up... oh, and also to increase my knowledge the exercise and nutrition field, as always.
Favorite Time(s) To Workout
All times. I used to prefer evenings at 4-5pm, but now I enjoy working out whenever I can. Honestly though, I can't lift max weights in the morning.
Favorite Activities
Kickboxing, weightlifting, building websites, reading.
Fitness Center Pet Peeves (what/who annoys you at the gym?)
Fools that lift too much, make too much noise when it's not necessary, lift with horrid form, talk to me for more than 45 seconds, and don't put the dumbbells back on the rack. I also disenjoy people that stink.
Favorite Motivational Quotes
This is just some of the stuff that I repeat in my head when I'm training.
"Yeah buddy, light weight!" - Ronnie
"Get this or die!" - Corey Taylor, Slipknot
"Heavy... we want it heavy!" - Disturbed
"I CAN do this." - Barbara Woo
"Whether you think you can or you think you can't, you are right." - some clever guy

stevehnsn It's more of a playlist. Pretty much all Slipknot songs, a couple from Mudvayne, Linkin Park, Disturbed, Static-X, and Pantera. There are a bunch of others, but I do find myself going back to Slipknot, Dig from Mudvayne, and a couple songs from Static-X.

runningbear It's definitely high energy music. Do you have a specific powersong or just a workout playlist?

stevehnsn I nearly joined crew in college as well, but I ended up coming down with a pretty serious illness that hospitalized me for a while. Now I just row on lakes. =)

As far as Slipknot and Disturbed, they were staples of my MP3 player when I was training alone for a while. That kind of music gets me pumped to push myself harder each workout.

runningbear Hey. I appreciate the add. I look forward to exchanging ideas on fitness and health in general. When/where do you row? I did intramural crew in college. Now I mainly lapswim, run and sculp with light freeweights. Quoting Slipknot and Disturbed on a fitness site? LOL I think it's great when someone doesn't feel the need to do the expected.

stevehnsn Introducing Project Swole. This is a website I started to document my journey through living a healthy lifestyle. I started with bodybuilding, then ran some races, then moved to powerlifting, tried olympic lifting somewhere in the middle of it all, finally I switched my focus to conditioning and became involved with mixed martial arts. Now that I have experience with all these types of exercise and have been certified twice in personal training and sports nutrition, I believe that I can help the world by sharing my knowledge and experience. Stop by http://www.projectswole.com and leave me some comments.
