"Veggies & Vitamins hidden in Fresh Fruit Smoothie"
Ingredients
1 large Red Delicious Apple
1 fresh bartlett pear
6-8 good sized strawberries
1-2 green bananas (this depends on your taste... more strawberry or more banana flavor up to you)
8 baby carrots
1oz fresh parsley leaves (vitamin K)
12 baby spinach leaves
1 cup 100% pear juice
1/2 cup apple juice
1oz acai berry juice (not a blend - I like Bosa Nova or Monavie)
1oz pomegranate concentrate
Preperation Instructions
Wash all fruits and veggies.
Leave peels on apple and pear.
Core and dice apple and pear.
Slice carrots.
Put all liquid ingredients, apple, pear, and carrots into blender and turn on highest setting. Allow blender to run while you prepare the rest of the ingredients. This will insure that you don't end up with a gritty sandy feeling in your smoothie while still getting your fiber.
Instructions
Using a big bowl to receive your prepared ingredients....
Cut the stems from your strawberries and slice them. Put baby spinach leaves into bowl, no need to cut. Put one once of fresh parsley leaves into bowl. I try to use the leaves only as their flavor is not as strong as the stems. (you should not use parsley if you are prone to kidney stones... this ingredient can be omitted)
Green bananas can be hard and sticky to peel. There is a trick to it. Cut off both ends of the banana. Run you knife down the OUTSIDE of the curve of the banana or the "back" of the banana just enough to cut through the peel. Start at one end of the cut and gently peel back just a little way on both sides of slit all the way down the banana. Once the entire slit has been slightly peeled from banana on both sides turn the banana inside out on your cutting board. Slice banana and add to bowl.
Once all ingredients are prepared and in bowl TURN OFF THE BLENDER (I am not responsible if you make a mess) and transfer ingredients from bowl to blender. Turn blender on. Allow to run for a few minutes until no more carrots or apple and pear peels are visible. Turn blender off. If you like warm smoothies drink right away, but I prefer to put the blender in the fridge and allow it to chill first. This is great for breakfast on the go and sweet tooth snacks... also makes a good ice cream topping on naughty days, especially if you like sundaes.
