This is something that I recommend for bodybuilding competition. If you are able to find a talented airbrush artist, go for it. Airbrushing will add darkness to your base tan so the lights don't wash you out on stage. It also helps you "show" better as far as muscle definition goes. I will hire one next time.

6 Ways to Avoid Nighttime Snacking
on 9/28/2009

One of the worst times you can eat is at night. Yet, our society forces this upon you with "late-night happy hour" abandon. How many nighttime activities can you think of that don't include at least an offer for food and/or drink? However, this is the last thing your body needs before it shuts down for 8 hours of sleep. Here are some tips to make it easier to adhere to the "3 hours before bedtime" rule that is, the "no-food-3-hours-before-bedtime" rule.
1. Make a ritual. The easiest way to not eat (or drink) is to get yourself into a pattern that doesn't include eating or drinking. No matter what you decide to try, continue long enough that it becomes habit. Then, eating and drinking will feel like the wrong thing to do instead of the norm.
2. StretchStretch out. Stretching at night is beneficial in many ways. Stretching out those muscles that you've used all day long helps you both recover and sleep better. It will also help you not eat, since eating is usually the last thing you feel like doing while stretching. Yoga Booty Ballet® Master Series' Pajama Time is the perfect way to end your day.
3. Work. If you've eaten at night, why not use up those calories and get some work done before hitting the hay? You can challenge yourself in this way by adding an amount of time that you'll work for each drink or hors d'oeuvre that you give in to.
4. Work out. This one requires that you learn about yourself because some people can't sleep if they work out at night. I'm not like that, so I'll often replace a night out with a night in the gym. Or, if I've eaten too much, I'll use a light workout to help digest some of those calories before winding down for the evening. Depending on your needs and/or your ability to sleep after working out at night, your workout can be anything from Slim in 6® to Hip Hop Abs® to P90X®.
5. Read. Better than TV in so many ways, reading not only engages your brain (which burns calori... read more

Alchohol and the Korsakov's syndrome

Hi everybody,
I think that everybody has heard from the “korsakov’s syndrome” at least once. My grandfater suffers from it, that’s the main reason why I’m putting this tip on FC. Feel free to correct my spelling mistakes, I'm Belgian after all :p
1. What is it and how do I get it?
Overuse of alcoholic products (like beer, wine, vodka,…) can cause serious damage to your brains. Everytime you drink alcohol, your amount of brain cell’s(?) decreases.
If you’re an alcohol addict, you will drink much alcohol, very frequently (my grandfater used to drink it every day). So that means that your amount of brain cell’s(?) decreases every day, that means that you’re becoming more stupid everytime you drink. As long as you dont use alcohol to much, and not every day, it’s fine. When your amount of brain cell’s(?) reaches a certain point that you don’t know from nothing: you almost don’t know your family, you’ve forgotten where you live, etc.. Ofcourse the symptomes are different for everybody but these are most frequent symptomes.
In fact, the syndrome is not caused by alcohol alone, but a combination from both alcohol use and a lack of vitamins B1. A lack of vitamins B1 comes (mostly) from eating disorders. The lack of vitamins B1 comes indirectly from alcohol use:
Overuse of alcohol -> eating disorders -> lack of vitamins -> affected organs
The name “Korsakov” comes from a russian docter who started writing about the connection between overuse of alcohol and brain damage (around 1887).
2. How do I see that I suffer from korsakov?
Korsakov looks alot like dementia from old people:
- Degradation of the Short-term memory
- Desoriëntation in time and place
- Depressions
- Panic and fear attacks
The brains from people who suffer from K... read more

(Sorry it's not in English Maybe I'll translate it sometime)...... read more

Business Tips...for fitness or any other pursuit.

How to Make it in This or Any Industry
Often times I'm asked how can one make it in the fitness industry as a successful model or trainer. Honestly the information I share with people applies to this, or any industry, for that matter. Business is business and should treated as such. That is the problem ,in my opinion, most "models" don't act as if they are a business.
I've invested in many careers over the years and to be brutally honest, most people just don't get it. The ones that do, however, understand that there are qualities that are vital to make it in this industry and any other.
1). Be a Person of Your Word- Good or bad, right or wrong always do what you say you're going to do. Over the years I've had differences with people, situations didn't always turn out as planned but I've always done whatever I can to make it right. On the other hand, I've had people not treat me the same in return or deal with a situation with the same professionalism and tact. Just do what you say you are going to do, or own up if you can't and you'll always end up coming out looking good.
2). Be Prepared- Always be ready for a photo shoot, appearance, audition or meeting. Whatever situation arrises never give the excuse, "I need more time." If you need more time, let someone know as early on in the process as you can. Don't come in at the eleventh hour and have that lame excuse.
3). Work Hard- Always give 100% in every situation and give more than you are being paid to give, especially if you aren't being paid. That is how you get called back, that is how you establish a great reputation, that is how you become a consistently hired model or actor.
4). Be Pleasant to Work With- There is nothing worse than someone who gripes, complains and acts as ... read more

Bicycle Blowout

If a bicycle is part of your exercise regimen, this tip is for you. How do you handle a flat tire when you are on the road or trail with no bike store or help nearby? Unless you want to carry that bike for a few miles, or worse get knocked out of a race - it helps to be ready for this situation, because it will happen.
Step 1: Be Prepared
Invest in a couple of items, including a small hand pump that can attach to the bike's frame. Also, get a pouch that attaches under the seat (or if you have a rack on the back of the bike, even better). Inside that pouch, put a spare inner tube and a multipurpose tool such as a 'leatherman' (google it if you don't know what that is), a 'tire tool', and any specialty tools specific to your bike (for example, my bike can pretty much be completely disassembled with one particular allen wrench size). If there's enough space, throw in a patch kit - a backup to the backup.
Step 2: Know How
Amazingly, at my first triathlon earlier this year I saw several bikers down with flat tires throughout the race, but many had to flag other bikers down for help!!! If I got a flat, I would fix it myself and get back in the race. No need to take someone else out of the race to do a good deed for me. Part of being able to finish the race is knowing how to handle a blowout. It's very easy and quick to replace a tube and get back on the road - if you know how.
