Determining Protein Purity
on 6/17/2010 by BrazilBadBoy | filed in: Other
Determining Protein Purity Here's a math formula to use on professor tightwad who buys the cheapest protein available and claims it's just like your favorite brand. You could easily argue taste and mixability, but let's get technical and leave no doubts about overall quality. This only works for single-source proteins, not blends or meal replacements, because they have added fiber, vitamins, minerals, etc. But if you're both using a straight whey or casein powder, check the facts label to see how much protein you get with one serving. For Gold Standard 100% Whey, it's 24 grams. Divide that number by the serving size (29.4 grams for the Vanilla Ice Cream flavor) and multiply by 100.

See how the cheapie proteins stack up against the Gold Standard! Then compare the levels of fat, sugar and carbs. With any luck, this formula will keep your myth makers quiet so you don't have to hear any nonsense about hitting the gym on an empty stomach and never doing any cardio. Knowledge is power in the quest for True Strength. Do your homework, track your progress and take pride in your new-found muscle building expertise. ... read more

Competition suits
on 2/4/2010 by KPmodel | filed in: Other
Purchase your competition suit with caution!  I took a chance with the flame print, and it went down in flames!  When the incredibally bright lights hit it there was waaaay too much bling.  Confusing bling.  It did not show well.  Not good for symmetry.  It works well in controlled modeling settings, but not for competition.  Take my word for it.  Learn from my mistake :)

Get rid of distractions at the gym; (iPod)
on 1/25/2010 by onestrongman | filed in: Other
I try to learn from the others at the gym.  I observe people while they workout in order to learn what works and what does not.

I see too many people touching their iPod rather than working out.

If your iPod is interupting your workout either fix your iPod when you are NOT of the gym... or DITCH your iPod. ... read more

A Little Reflection.....
on 1/15/2010 by KPmodel | filed in: Other
I am the sum total of my life experiences, good, bad and somewhere in the middle.  All in all I've learned from it ALL.  I am strong and determined.  I stop to rest, but not for too long.  Even if they are against me, I will fight the "odds."  I'll never stop setting goals for myself.  Others may give up on themselves, but I'll never give up on those who grip tightly to hope.  I refuse to be bored during my quiet time.  That is when I reflect and truely know who I am.

What is my tip?  Reflect during quiet times and know your value!!    ... read more

Color Your Weight Loss Blue
on 11/15/2009 by lori99 | filed in: Other
This is kind of interesting and I have heard this tip before; of course diet, exercise, and mental health should always be the main streams for weight loss and health. This strange tip may actually have some truth behind it!

"Bring the color blue into your life more often. There's a good reason you won't see many fast-food restaurants decorated in blue: Believe it or not, the color blue functions as an appetite suppressant. So serve up dinner on blue plates, dress in blue while you eat, and cover your table with a blue tablecloth. Conversely, avoid red, yellow, and orange in your dining areas. Studies find they encourage eating.'"... read more

Airbrushing for Competition
on 11/13/2009 by KPmodel | filed in: Other
This is something that I recommend for bodybuilding competition.  If you are able to find a talented airbrush artist, go for it.  Airbrushing will add darkness to your base tan so the lights don't wash you out on stage.  It also helps you "show" better as far as muscle definition goes.  I will hire one next time.
