Add Function to your training

on 1/3/2009 by jamesw | filed in: Strength Training
When ever you train you should try and incorpoate as many mucles and joints as possibly, providing proper form and technique can be maintained. This "Functional Training" mimics the daily movements of life and trains your body to function as one unit. Isolation based routines de-link your body and actuallys de-trains you from a neuromuscular linkage pespective. Think of motions common in your daily life and try to mimic them in the gym using free weights or pulleys always ensuring proper joint alignment and core activation.

The benefits also incude:

Greater caloric expenditure from increased muscle mass involved in motions
Kinetic Chain based linking that enables better full body control (proprioception)
Improved abiltiy to meet the daily demands of life without injury nor limitation
Greater athletic ability from increased neuromuscular activation

Cheers!

Yes it is! The trcik is to mimic, as closely as possible, the daily movements of one's life. We want to do this using as many joints as we can safely control thereby training the body to function as one unit. Isolationists need to read the science.....
