In order to lose weight you have to have a caloric deficit. Calories in must be exceeded by calories out. The quickest way to do it is just to eat less. While this strategy will work for a while, it has its drawbacks.
First the body gets in a starvation mode once you drop calories for a prolonged period. Thus it starts burning less energy for the same activities and weight loss thus platoes.
Also, if no weight training is added to the daily activities, the weight loss will be partly from the decrease of the muscle/organ/tissue mass. This is a bad thing as it decreases the number of calories the body burns.

When trying to improve your body, don't make the mistake of just bulking like crazy (for the guys) or simply starving yourself (for the ladies). Work on the proportion of your figure as if you were a renaissance artist. First lose the fat - thus guys would have more shapely shoulders and waist, resembling more closely the nice taper of the letter V. Girls in turn would have a much sexier waist to hip ratio, For guys - work on your weak areas. If going for the V, develop the lats with weighted pull ups, the shoulders with military presses and various lateral raises as well as the triceps to give your body more width. Don't neglect anything else, but focus on your weaknesses and on building proportion and not just size.
Gals - put a bit of muscle on your but, hips and shoulders with squats, dead lifts, lunges, pull downs and various shoulder presses.... read more
