Specifics on Competition Expenses

on 5/15/2009 by KPmodel | filed in: Strength Training
Clothing and extras for fitness competition, as I said previously, can be pretty expensive.

1)  Shoes range anywhere from about $30 (bargain priced) to around $100.  Mine were $48.  The type of shoes worn have a clear heel and they are quite high (4-6").  Some have an open back while others have straps around the heel.  The plastic over the foot is clear.

2)  Two piece competition suits might start reasonably priced until you factor in the added crystal embellishments.  My choice was just over $50 for the "wet look" until I added the ebellishment work.  That jumped the price up to $175.  You CAN get a suit for under $100, however it will be pretty plain unless you are able to do your own beadwork.  If you have that sort of talent, that is something to think about if you want to save money and have the time to do it yourself.

3)   Hair.  Some people wear hair pieces, but I'll have my natural hair.  Salon cost for me is $75.  I've been going to the same wonderful person for style and highlights for yrs. now :)

4)   French tip nails will be $45.  Maintaining them will be $30 each visit.  That will be something different for me.

5)   My tanning package for one month unlimited was $39 which I thought was a great deal.

6)   Competition card.  Must purchase one for organization of choice.  My card will be $85 and will be purchased the day of the competition.

7)   Entry fee will be $55 for each division for this competition.

8)   Don't forget about the PT if you opt to have one.  That ranges anywhere from $20-$30/ session.  If you split w/someone (PT works with two people at the same time) costs go can go down substantially.

9)   Travel and loding.  Varies but something to think about.

10)  Protein supplementation.  Varies depending on what you select.  I've learned that this IS important!!

That's the breakdown for me so far.  Hopefully that gives people interested in competition a basic idea of what they may be looking at. I was fortunate to get a few great tips from a friend that experienced her first competition, but so much has been me searching on my own.  The "Journey" is as individual as the individual :D

I was reading the recent edition of Hers Muscle and Fitness.. and there is a bunch of info about competitions in there this month. There is even a new competition and the requirements for it.
There was an article that reminded me of this tip... so i had to find it and let you know.

AND>.. they have subscriptions again!!.. I might have to get one before they change their minds.

Are you talking about bikini competition? If so, that has been a controversial issue on Bodybuilding.com. Some people are worried it will draw so many people and that it will be a time drainer at the competitions. They want to keep a certain level of muscularity in competition and don't want it to become a pageant where any skinny girl that doesn't work hard can enter. It will be interesting. They want to keep the "work ethic" alive so to speak. Thanks MC for the mag tip...I'll look for it this weekend :)

yep.. The NPC. they brushed on the controversy.

This issue has a ton more nutritional stuff than I usually see. They even have a HERS food pyramid.. I found it very interesting. I liked all the extra food info rather than a ton of ads for supplements. I think something must have changed since last year. I was on the survey panel last year for some of the mag stuff.... maybe they were changing it.

And.. the 300 workout is in it. I was intrigued that it is a self-challenge of time instead of reps.

That is fantastic! I have been curious. I am not looking to compete.. but would like to get into the proper self-discipline and routine that I would not be laughed at for considering it.. LOL!

I guess I am wondering if it is farfetched of a goal to reach... when I think it is unattainable.. something inside steps up and tells me to stop killing possible dreams.

Thanks! Please share as much info as you would like :) I will be listening.
