Cut Down Gym Time, Get Better Results

on 2/3/2009 by Jdowie | filed in: Strength Training
Too many times do I see people at the gym who bang out a set, and then sit and wait or talk for the next 5 minutes before they do another set.   Not only is this not good because you're wasting your time at the gym and taking up time on machines that other people want to use, but think about yourself!  You get much better results if you monitor your rest time in between sets and keep it under 60 seconds tops.  I prefer to keep mine under 30 seconds which I find even better.  It keeps your muscles active, your heart rate up, and overall gives you a better workout in a shorter amount of time.  Just keep that in mind next time you're in the gym.

Wow, I really never knew lol. I've never seen anyone train like that, and I've come into contact with all different kinds of lifters. But I guess you learn something new everyday. I'm actually really interested in this style of lifting, cause I'd like to build size. I mean I'm only 16 so first of all I still have tons to learn and second of all my body isn't done developing yet, and I know seriously heavy lifting can mess with that, but is there any insight you can give me? You're one of the most knowledgeable people I've come across so far and most of that seems to come from experience.

If you are doing high intensity workouts ( heavy weights, stripping method, running the rack, descending weights, super sets, etc) (which I prefer) you may have to wait 3 minutes to recover enough to continue.

Haha, I go to the gym a lot, but never came across anyone who lifts like that. It actually sounds really interesting.

Its about size J not size and strength or beauty its about size the usual gym rats are training from the Ronnie Coleman articles in the muscle mags they dont train right. The guys I hung out with in my youth were hardcore BB nobody today even understands what that means. My routines are written to build size only massive size I lift extremely heavy weights ( example I will do a set of near maximal squats at 85% of my max 5 to 6 reps 3 or 4 sets ) I will not say my lifting weight as people take it as bragging, but I will guarantee you that I will have to rest at least 4 or 5 minutes or more that is usually the only thing I do and its an hr workout including warmups and stretching and I will not do heavy Squats for 7 to 10 days. These are techniques that are for advanced and experienced BB's I did not start lifting like this till I had a foundation

see i have a hard time - i try and monitor my rest periods - but i think for me setting a specific rest time is hard for me its all about knowing my limits and when my muscless wil be ready for the next set - never to long a time but if i cut my rest time i can barely put up what i should be - it works for me
