Swimming with a scab

on 7/14/2009 by plucky | filed in: Sports

What's your opinion on going swimming with a sore that has scabbed over?  The story is, over the 4th of July weekend lots of people were getting thrown into the pool and in the process, I ended up with a couple of abrasions that are now scabbed over.  Last weekend I skipped swimming since the scabs were still a little soft and I didn't want to risk any nasty infections.  However, this weekend is a triathlon and I really don't want to miss it.  Any thoughts?

Man put some vasaline on that bad boy and call it a day. Put some peroxide on it afterwards. Thats what I would do.

That's a tough one man. The scab's probably got healthy skin under it by now, but if it doesn't, you'd definitely be taking a risk. At the same time, triathalon's are kind of your thing - it be a shame for you to miss out on something you love. Sorry I couldn't be more help.
plucky I hear you and ditto... At this point it's had two weeks to heal and even though there is one good size scab left (a little larger than a quarter) it's looking like it's the end of the scab phase. I think I'm going for it!
