I would say the same strategy for any type of training - lots of protein, runners need 50-75% more protein than none runners to rebuild muscles and promote recovery, chicken should be a staple - multi-grain pastas are easier to digest and restore the glycogen, sweet potatoes, mixed berries (raspberries, blackberries, blueberries) for the antioxidants, oranges to ease some of the soreness (vitamin c) pretty much just eating healthy veggies, spinach, fruits, protein, whole grain cereals and pastas, almonds are a great snack - pretty eat small meals when your hungry and eat a decent meal after a long hard running session. If your doing a lot of running making sure to eat enough healthy foods is key - you shouldnt have any problem shedding a few pounds

Hey - quick question - this past saturday i did my first 20 mile run, and literally a vendor cart saved my life around mile 12 because i picked up some gatorade, but does anyone have strategies food wise? does anyone run with those belts with the water and places to store stuff? I feel like it'd drive me nuts running but maybe its definitely worth it...?

I start preparing a few days in advance keeping myself hydrated - a good test to make sure you are fully hydrated is checking the color of your urine (gross i know) but it should be pratically clear. I also drink about 10 ounces of water every hour for a few hours before the the big run - also i do occasionally wear the belt depending on weather - sometimes its so hot i need a water bottle and gatorade, i cant recall at the moment which one i have - but if you dont like the belt visit aquaclip.com they have this neat clip that clips right onto the waist band of of your shorts and it is strong enough to hold a bottle of water.

hey thanks! sorry my response was so delayed!!
On sunday i finished my second 20 mile run..only 3 more weeks till my first marathon! but it was so great, i ran it with my sister who is part of a training group, so this guy drove around and would meet us at the 7 miles, 13 miles and 18 miles to give us water/gatorade so we didn't have to carry anything...now if only i could have that every time i do a long run!
