Canned Food is Just as Healthy as Fresh Food

on 3/12/2009 | filed in: Nutrition and Supplements
Canned Food is Just as Healthy as Fresh Food For the last century, health myths have propagated throughout the world. One prominent myth is that canned food is not as good for you as fresh food. In fact, this is not true.

Part of the theory is that some fruits and vegetables are cooked at high heat before being canned, and many nutritionists assume this processing degrades all their vitamin, mineral, and fiber content.

Just the other day a Project Swole reader named Rav wrote:

“I have a question regarding canned beans. Is there any difference in the nutrient content between canned beans and soaking the beans yourself and cooking them?”

on 2/9/2009 | filed in: Bodybuilding / Dieting / Nutrition and Supplements

Optimum Nutrition protein powder tastes pretty good, but we can still realize a ton of benefits by learning to mix it with some of the other healthiest foods.

In my 13 years experience whipping up protein concoctions I have retained a couple favorite combinations. Get some protein, get some groceries, and enjoy.

My Top 21 Favorite Foods to Mix with Protein Powder

1. Milk - Just use milk instead of water for more flavor, more thickness, and more calories. Try goat’s milk for an extra health kick.

Most of us strive to lose fat and build muscle our entire lives. Other lucky endomorphs end up building so much muscle that they eventually want to shed some of it.

Why?

Because when you are genetically gifted to gain muscle, it is sometimes necessary to keep muscle gain low in order to just feel comfortable in everyday life.

I have not lifted a weight in almost 13 years, and my body looks like I’m a football player. I’ve done some research on how to lose muscle, and what I’m finding is that I should cut down on protein and load up on carbohydrates. I’m either playing basketball or doing yoga almost 5-6 days a week, so I am very active. I’ve even toyed with the idea of becoming a vegetarian and cutting m... read more
