Where I'm at after 8 weeks on the Bowflex...

Where I'm at after 8 weeks on the Bowflex... So after about 8 weeks on the Bowflex, I am definitely glad we bought it. Yesterday I had the best workout to date. I really pushed myself. I was going for a 1-rep max on my incline bench press, so I decided to start with 250 because I had been working out with 210 for the last three workouts. I was able to put it up pretty easily, so I kept going. I did five reps the first set and then four more sets of six reps. I was a little sceptical of the weight, so I had Chelle come in and check the weight for me. I was right, I really did put up 250lbs 29 times! I don't know what that translates to in free weights, but if you consider that I started out with only 140lbs, I definitely made an improvement! What was great about it, was that I didn't feel defeated afterwards. I went on to increase the weight on the rest of my exercises and then walked out of my workout room afterwards, feeling ten foot tall and bulletproof! I went on having a great day at work, bragging to everyone about my s... read more

Bowflex Week Two and Three

on 3/13/2009 | filed in: Exercise and Workouts
Bowflex Week Two and Three Well, it's been three weeks today since Chelle and I started working out with our Bowflex. I can't tell you how much fun it's been. We're having such a great time together ( oh, I guess that means I can tell you...lol! ). We were working out on it every day for the first week, alternating between upper body and lower body each day, but now we're taking one day off each week. We decided to make that day Sunday because we have to run our errands on Mondays ( our other day off ) and that way we can sleep in on Sundays. We still go for a 30-40 minute walk with Ein ( our dog ) to get in our cardio and entertain Ein, but other than that we just take it easy that day. What's cool is that we've started working out in the mornings now, following our walk, so we have more time in the evenings. Another benefit to working out in the morning is that we eat our biggest meal of the day following the workout, so it gives us a chance to work out on an empty stomach and burn more calories and fat. I've ... read more

Bowflex Week One

on 2/28/2009 | filed in: Exercise and Workouts
Bowflex Week One Well, it's been one full week as of yesterday ( 02-27-09 ) since Chelle and I have been working out on our Bowflex. We actually got it ( the rest of it anyway! ) about a week and a half ago, but it took a few days to get it put together, move it to another room, and then to learn how to set up and do the exercises we've chosen for our first six weeks. I have to say we love it! We've both lost a few pounds and a few body fat percentage points, and our energy level has already increased.
We're not just doing the Bowflex to get in shape though. In the morning, we get up around 7 or 8 o'clock and take our dog for a two mile walk. It takes us about 30-40 minutes, depending on how well our dog listens! We try to walk quickly to keep our heart rates up. After about a mile into the walk, we jog for a minute because our dog, Ein, is afraid to walk under these two bridges that go over the road, so we've gotten into that strange habit. When we're almost ... read more

There was a light at the end of the Bowflex tunnel!

on 2/19/2009 | filed in: Exercise and Workouts
There was a light at the end of the Bowflex tunnel! Last night, Chelle and I went home and partially disassembled the Bowflex and moved it to another room. It didn't take as long as we thought it would. Only about an hour and a half. We did have to take the bedroom door off of the hinges, but that saved us a lot of time because we would have had to spend a lot more time taking the Bowflex apart otherwise. Then we ate dinner and watched the dvd that came with it. I have to say it was a great dvd. It completely covered how to set up our Bowflex for different exercises and then showed us how to do each exercise. It's very simple to change around the machine to do each exercise and takes very little time to do it. We tried a few of the exercises and loved it! We didn't add very much weight yet, because they said we should take a few days to familiarize ourselves with the machine and concentrate on doing the exercises properly. Tonight we'll add a little more weight and try some more exercises. So despite my frustration with Bowflex and... read more

...And So The Bowflex Saga Continues!

on 2/18/2009 | filed in: Other
...And So The Bowflex Saga Continues! Well, it finally came in. Chelle and I got the rest of our Bowflex yesterday. On Monday we received part of it hanging on our doorknob. It was a relatively small part, so no big deal. The only thing is, we were supposed to get it at our work and not our home because we are never home during the day. This wasn't a big deal for this part because it was very small, and we were home because it was our day off. What was a big deal was that we were concerned the other packages may also arrive at our home. That would be no good because we weren't sure if they would leave them there if there was nobody home to sign for them, and if they did, we didn't want them to get stolen off of our porch. So Chelle called them and told them our situation. They said that the guy that tried to fix our order ( my last blog about them sending me broken and missing parts ) got the shipping and billing addresses switched. She said it was no problem because they were in route to us. So Chelle said,"Yeah, but they... read more
