Labels that say "organic" or "fat-free" are not all they're cracked up to be - as you might have guessed!

Labels that say "organic" or "fat-free" are not all they're cracked up to be - as you might have guessed! Hey guys. There's an interesting article about misleading food labels and marketing tricks that play on your urge to eat healthy and get you to buy food that really isn't that healthy. One example is Kraft's "organic" macaroni & cheese. Big companies have really got wise to people wanting to be healthy, but they're also exploiting people's laziness about reading labels. It's not anything that a lot of you don't already know, but I found it to be an interesting article and thought someone else may want to read it, so here you go - enjoy!=)

Go straight for the hard stuff?!

on 2/18/2009 | filed in: Dieting
Go straight for the hard stuff?! I don't know about you guys, but I like to have a "nightcap" before bed sometimes. I was very surprised to find out that my shots of patron are only about 65 calories per one ounce shot, while the margaritas that I used to enjoy, sometimes have as much as 400+ calories per 8oz glass! Ouch. I originally quit drinking margaritas because the sour-mix gives me heartburn. Now that I know how many calories they have, I'm glad they did give me heartburn! The same euphoric feeling that I get from 3 margaritas can be accomplished in just three simple one ounce shots, with about 1000 less calories! I've found that almost all shots have 65 calories, although when it comes to shots, the higher the alcohol content, the higher the calories. A one ounce shot of 80 proof vodka only has 65 calories, while the 100 proof vodka is 82 calories per one ounce shot. Light beers are usually around 110 calories per 12oz glass, while regular beers and most wines are around 150 calories per 8oz. glass. Once ... read more

Little known facts about cinnamon and honey! Hey fellow fitsters! One of my friends just showed me some kick-ass information that I thought you might like to read. I'm kinda lazy and it's rather lengthy, so I'm just going to copy and paste it here for you!:)

Is a low-cal pizza too good to be true?!

on 2/6/2009 | filed in: Dieting
Is a low-cal pizza too good to be true?! No it is not! I work ten hours a day managing an Italian Pizzeria in my home town. You would think that it would be difficult to diet while working around all that yummy food, but it's not. You can even have pizza if you want! Here's how. If you eat thin crust, with light sauce and light cheese, you can have all the veggies you want and even some protein. We have a thin, edgeless, par-baked crust ( we use Bonici, but I'm sure there are other similar crusts out there ) that is fairly low in calories. A nine inch crust, which is plenty for one person, only has 256 calories. One ounce of our cheese blend ( an even mixture of mozzarella and provolone ) has 110 calories. The sauce that we use is only 10 calories per ounce. So if I want pizza, I usually put about 1/2 ounce of sauce down, green peppers, onions, two ounces of diced boneless chicken, one ounce of cheese blend, and top with a little oregano. Even with the chicken on there it's only 436 calories! I know a thin crus... read more

I need a good detox diet

on 2/3/2009 | filed in: Dieting
I need a good detox diet Does anyone have a good detox diet? I did one about six years ago that consisted of a lot of berry shakes and smoothies, baked potatoes, and rice. It worked really well for me, but i can't find it or one like it. I think the first two or three days was nothing but liquids and berry shakes and then for four days after that you could have veggies, rice and potatoes, but i can't remember exactly how it went. If anyone has one like it or  one that's similar I would really appreciate it.... read more
