Walking is not the most amazing exercise, but it's easy, and doesn't take much mental strength to dive into. Maybe it's ease does make walking somewhat amazing afterall. However, there are times when it's hard to get up the motivation to go on a walk to burn some calories.
Here are some tips to help with walking motivation:
1. Buddy Walk Finding a buddy to walk with will help keep you motivated. Striking up a convo will make it a more sociable experience as well.
2. Grab some new fitness apparel Not a necessity, but ipods help with fitness motivation on all levels. Pedometers, speed and heart rate monitors can also get you moving and grooving because it's fun to know how far we walked, what our target heart rate is and how many calories we have burned. Walking gadgets make walking fun which will increase the likeliehood that you keep walking.
3. Find ways to walk for a purpose Doing a charity walk will burn calories and help out a good cause by raising awareness and hopefully money as well. While many involve running, there is no shame in walking to the finish line.
4. Journal your walking Don't just journal that you performed a walk and how long. Write a journal of how you felt while walking and even the conversations had while walking. Hopefully there will be conversations if you listened to walking motivational tip number 2.
5. Pick the best timing to walk The best time to walk will differ for everyone. It all depends on you and when you enjoy walking. When will a nice long walk fit into your schedule? Pick a time for daily walks that you know you'll be able to keep up with.
That being said, my friend and I are going out for a jog. Extra tip number 6... Sometimes turn your brisk walks into a healthy jog.
