Coffee and Caffeine effects on the body

Coffee and Caffeine effects on the body Caffiene and other stimulants tap into the body's 'fight or flight' adrenal system. Right off I'd suggest switching to Yerba Mate, better nutritionally and a more mellow energy boost.

There are some antioxidants in coffee (but also plenty of antioxidant rich juices that aren't caffienated) and caffiene has positive associations with things like concentration, test-taking skill etc. (as you would expect from a central-nervous-system stimulant).

But it is also an addictive drug and one of the tools that people use to forgo necessary sleep (article yesterday says the sleep-deprived are 3X more likely to catch a cold than the non-sleep deprived). Also quite acidic. It's fine for many in moderation but the wrong fuel for the fire for many others.

Bodypump Workout

on 1/23/2009 | filed in: Exercise and Workouts
Bodypump Workout Not sure if anyone has heard of this program, my friend got me to do it with her. It's called the Bodypump workout.

The Bodypump workout is big in Europe and now working it's way to the states. It's an hour class, meets twice a week, let me tell you, ITS A KILLER WORKOUT! I work out on average, 1-2 hours a day, I also run, backpack and bike, I thought I would fall asleep in the class. But that definitely was not the case with this bodypump workout.

So there I am...We're half way through the class, I'm dieing, and thinking I can't go on anymore, I wanted to quit, but I saw all the everyone else in there just punching it out, out of humuliation I pushed on. the next day I could not walk, now after 3 weeks, my body is getting used to it, and I'm rocking in the class, I highly suggest this bodypump routine for everyone. Look to see if your gym offers the bodypump class, and if they do, TAKE IT!... read more

Shocking, Water Can Kill You

on 2/7/2008
Shocking, Water Can Kill You Don't worry, it doesn't cause cancer or anything, but if you've ever wondered if water has the ability to kill you (other than drowning) it does. I recently came across an article explaining how, although it is extremely rare, water can kill you.

Drinking an overload of water is called water intoxication, or hyper hydration, which dilutes your bodies nutrients and in some cases, results in death. In fact, the article cited a case where a man name Shaun McNamara died from a swollen brain, caused by drinking too much water. The man was only 35 years old and it is a truly tragic story. Apparently, it happens to marathon runners from time to time. And when I say time to time, i mean a very very rare time to time.

So this gives new light to the fact that when nutritionists say that anything can hurt you if not used in moderation, they're right. As for me, I don't see any marathons in my near future.... read more

It's important to not overstress yourself

on 1/29/2008
It's important to not overstress yourself Being a girl today, of any age, it is stressful keeping up with the image of the ideal female body. I personally dedicate a lot of energy to that, and that's why I'm on this site. But, some girls simply don't have the time, or genetically have more of a struggle than others (I know a lot of girls have it easier than me, it's not fair). But it's important, mentally, to set possible goals, a plan to achieve them, and then relax your mind. Unless it's your hobby, you cannot stress over having the ideal body. Because in most cases, you're not going to have the perfect body, unless you ARE one of those girls who makes a hobby out of it and works very hard. And if you are one of those girls (or guys), I give you a lot of respect, because that is a hard thing to do.

Anyway, I found this article that touched on the same subject that I'm talking about. And this will help give you some peace of mind when starting your next diet plan.

There's a lot more girls than you t... read more
