The Garmin Forerunner 205 GPS monitor for running is something I've been looking to get for a long time. I got it for about $160 total with the tax included, $150 retail. Saturday & Sunday were some okay days to test it out. The weather was warmer, but slushy roads and wet, cloudy, foggy conditions have taken over here as of late. Not a pleasant run, but a run outside for once, nonetheless!

Saturday's run was an out & back run to the cemetery, a 2.21-2.22 ish total run from my house and back. My guess of a 2.25 mile run from last week wasn't that far off, I'd say.

Sunday's run was a spin through the various streets of Finley, as I was more interested in the elevation points & climbs of certain hills throughout my town. Some of the run was taken on part of the town's 5K route for our s... read more

I'm beyond stressed, and before this turn of events, my fall back method for dealing with stress has always been to work out. However, lack of child care and an unpredictable work schedule has wreaked havoc on my ability to run or hit the gym with any regularity - and that REALLY causes me stress!! I HATE missing my workouts, and knowing I'm losing fitness makes me feel even worse about myself and my life than I already do. Sports enhancers, cheating, gambling, drugs and sex scandals are a part of modern professional sports, and I can accept that. I am not sure how new of a trend this is. Some of the best baseball players of old were known to be hardcore alcoholics. The "Black Sox" admitted to throwing the world series for money...

Unless you live deep down under a very large rock, you have heard about the sex scandal surrounding Tiger Woods. Golf never got this much attention. Here is a question for you, what does Tiger Woods being an unfaithful husband have to do with golf? He could be sleeping with goats, but he is still the best golfer out there.

Mike Tyson is the youngest man ever to become Heavyweight Boxing champion of the world. But did you know that keeping fish as pets can help you feel better too? Researchers have discovered that people who watch fish swim in an aquarium for 20 minutes experience significantly lower blood pressure. As a matter of fact, a finned or furry friend can help improve your health in a variety of ways.

While it’s no secret that dog owners enjoy the cardiovascular benefits of daily dog walks, cat owners also seem to have healthier hearts. Studies have shown that a friendly pet can reduce anxiety, help lower blood pressure and moderate levels of cholesterol and triglycerides. Much like yoga or meditation, pets may help to calm us mentally and physically by diverting our attention from stressful situations. The simple, rhythmic motion of petting an animal may play a part in relaxing us too.

Having a pet around may even improve your immune system function. Basically, the more of a "V" shape from your shoulders down to your waist the more physically fit you appear.

The bigger the waist… the straighter the line down from your shoulders and the less of a V you have.

So, whether you're in clothes or at the beach people immediately know how healthy or in shape you are by just looking at the ratio of your waist to your shoulders.

Now we know that belly fat is stubborn to eliminate, but there is a way!

Actually, there are 3 rules you must follow in order to be successful...

Here are the 3 Rules for Burning Belly Fat:<br ... read more

First, it called for 17 kettlebell snatches for every 36 second set, with 36 seconds rest before you do the other arm. 35 sets total. I did the math on that, and its just shy of 42 minutes (41:24). 72 seconds x 35 = 2520 seconds, or 42 minutes. Take off the final rest period, and its 41:24. It also came to 595 total kettlebell snatches in that time frame. Yeesh. I just did 560 of them in the 15:15 Protocol. Could I handle 35 more with just under 1:30 added to my total training time?

Well, I did it, but not without struggle at the end. You see, when you're doing KB snatches for extended periods of time like this calls for, you'll notice something. I never knew posture was so important and realised that i dont have the best posture so i did some research and found this great little article.

If you have an office job especially, where you would be sitting down for extended periods during the day, this is for you. Sometimes people have an exaggerated arch in their lower back, which looks unsightly and unfortunately leads to the stomach protruding more than normal and making people look fatter than they actually are. This is due to tight hip flexor muscles, but fear not as there are many excercises and stretches you can do to loosen them and get that posture back to normal.
Check it out!

http://figureathlete.tmuscle.com/free_online_article/training/pain_free_lower_body_posture... read more

Stretching will help improve your flexibility. After facing bone-chilling wind chills from December through February, we have been patiently waiting for some above-freezing temps. I always tend to say that after a few months of sub-zero weather and wind chill factors, when it hits 30, it feels like 50. Perfect day for my first outdoor run of 2010!

I decided for an out & back run on the roads, since its the only thing that is clear right now. I went in the following format:

4 minutes easy
4 minutes Tabata rounds
Turn around
4 minutes easy
4 minutes Tabata rounds

I had one block left to cover, and I was ready for a cool-down walk back home.

This felt pretty hard today, as the body is still a bit sore from the Kettlebell protocol workout I did on Saturday. Some claim to be cleansers, others help detox the liver or kidneys. Many even claim to help drop 5 pounds!!! No wonder it is a multi million dollar industry, and it is found in a billion dollar industry.

I will say that some of these products are better than others, but most of them are the exact same idea... a whole lot of fibre!!! Does flushing your digestive tract really mean you are detoxing? Do you really need products like this to "clean out" your insides?

My answer is this... eat food... real food... the right types of food! You'll save money, get better results, and results that will last!

There are a few steps to "detoxing" and cleaning your body of all the junk that needs to be filtered out. Step 1 is to stop eating processed foods. If you don't stop eating these foods, you are always going to keep putting junk into your sy... read more
