Protein shakes or Protein from food

Does it really matter where you get your protein from? Is a protein shake/drink just as good as if you were eating a  food that was rich in protein?

Thanks for the honest info.

I don't use protein bars or shakes. I eat real food. I have found when I am on the road for work if I can't carry a cooler with my food I struggle to find proper nutritious food. When I am in a suburban environment I go to the grocery and get yogurt, fruits and lunch meat in a pinch but - I was wondering what to do when I am on the run, travelling and there is no way to get healthy food.

"What are your thoughts on protein bars versus food?"

same thing applies with protein bars. real food will always be superior. I will only use protein bars If im going to be out for a while and need to get a quick meal in while im not home

A vary old and stupid argument. This like training info needs to be applied according to what goals you or your client has period.
You cannot tell a bodybuilder not to get the extra protein he or she needs from food alone, please.

Its the same with the old multi vitamin argument, If your sitting on your couch playing Video games you probably dont need to spend the money on Vitamins, but if you are active you better be on a good Mul;vitamin mineral supplement.

Food hands down. Your body does a much better job at processing it, plus who the hell knows whats really in protein powder anyway since the FDA doesn't regulate that stuff.

if you are going to drink the shake, make sure its the whey protein stuff and not something like muscle milk. Although Muscle Milk does the job in giving you a lot of protein, it also has a lot more fat in it than the whey protein. But I'd say stick to food as much as possible.

First thier are different types of Protein for different purposes, you dont ingest Whey before bedtime ( its only got a 2 hr or less digestion rate) you would use a blended, or Egg White, or Cassien.
