Fitness BootCamps - Good For You?

Fitness BootCamps - Good For You? Fitness Bootcamps are increasing in popularity all over the world.  In the United States they are taking over...literally.  It makes sense when you consider the cost effectiveness of fitness bootcamps in the economic times we are living in today.

Adding to reasons why - they work.

They are intense by nature, and result in major calorie burning during and well after the workout.  Less time more results.

Any problems?

Yes.

Fitness Bootcamps have also become the most sought after revenue generator for "personal trainers".  I must admit that increasing my bottom line was one of the main factors in my decision to teach classes myself.

In lieu of this many trainers have started their own bootcamps with little to no preparation.  Using minimal thought to the programming that should be the basis for all the classes.  The system that the class is developed around is not only paramount to the success of the class - but the safety and well being of every class member.

Is a bootcamp class merely a kick your ass camp?  Some may think so.  It's bad enough that some trainers think that pummeling a client is the way to an effective workout everytime.  Now these same people are leading groups of people down the same road.  Don't believe me?  Do a search on YouTube and see what you find.

Even the general public can think so. I have actually had new members leave my class because I didn't simply crush them, yell at them and drive them into the ground durning their first class with me.  This same person had an injury they suffered at another bootcamp that simply would not heal.  Bye Bye.

Don't get me wrong.  I believe that intensity is an extremely important aspect to every exercise program.

If a professional athlete does not exercise until they are about to puke during each and every workout...why would we think we could?  Why would a trainer or coach think you could?

Effort and effectiveness are not the same thing.

A bootcamp should also include mobility, agility, tissue quality, deloading, REST, etc.  If it is a kids class...don't even get me started.  That is a totally separate post.

Be selective and try a few bootcamps.  Most will have a drop in rate or even a free class to start.  Ask questions of not only the trainer/coach but of the other participants.

Train hard.  Train smart.  Win.
