motivation

on 8/14/2008
Thanks to everyone who stopped by to say hello. It gives me the motivation to keep pushing. Didn't make it to the gym today though too many doctor appts.  I've been reading everyones comments and advice and now I'm questioning my diet. I eat VERY healthy. just need to know when I'm supposed to eat when a workout comes into play.

9 am Breakfast:  a bowl of fiber one cereal with fat free milk and coffee
11:30 am Snack: Powermax bar or  1/2 Muscle Milk (choc mint :)
2pm: 1/2 Muscle Milk
3pm to 4:30pm :Gymtime
4:45pm -Right after gym Muscletech protein powder and dash of tang or  hit up Smoothie King
5:30 light snack- soup or salad
7:30 dinner sushi or chicken breast with salad

Basically that's how it works because the boyfriend is hungry so often. I know smaller meals are better but am I waiting long enough before or after  a workout?

Check out the blog I posted on getting 5 meals in a day. You need to eat more to weigh less.

I don't think your eating enough (pending on what all goes in your salad)- I would check a daily calorie intake calculator on the web -http://www.diet-blog.com/archives/2005/12/26/how_to_calculate_your_daily_calorie_needs.php - or just google calculate calorie intake - on a side note I try not to eat for 5 hours before the gym - I posted a link to fitness black book - Rusty explains it pretty well - really you though you need to do what works for you - I know a lot of people cant make it through a gym session not eating beforehand and they still obtain their goals - its all about playing around and finding what works best for you

One thing that I noticed... I would avoid the processed foods, even if they are "gym" related drinks or bars, because they're....ummm, processed. Try replacing them with a zip lock bag of raw fruits or veggies. Second, be careful eating dinner so late on a consistent basis, dinner should be the smallest meal of the day, and breakfast should be the biggest. Our main HGH production occurs during REM sleap, and that can't happen when we eat too late at night. Eat as early as possible in the evening, and make it the smallest meal of the day. If you're going to do a meal replacement shake, do it at dinner, not lunch. Last....check out my diet related blogs! lol

You are going to get very different opinions here... Just give 'em all some thought and choose what works for you.

IMHO you should actually eat something for lunch! You need that fuel if you're going to spend over an hour in the gym (BTW - on that front, it's not uncommon for me to spend 2 hrs in the gym combining an hour of cardio followed by an hour of weights). Also, I think you might benefit by adding some fruits in there somewhere.

If it were me, I would eat lunch at 11:30 or 12 and move the powermax bar to the 2pm slot. And maybe a piece of fruit along with the protein powder right after the gym (and only 'indulge' in the smoothie once in a while - those things can have as many calories as a Big Mac!).

I'm with you on the salads... I eat salad twice a day every day; just vary the ingredients from time to time so it doesn't get too boring (there are a lot of good salad recipes here).

Good luck!!
