So often I hear that people get bored with their fitness programs. Let's face it if you are doing the treadmill or bike 5 times per week no matter what Itunes had on tap it's gonna get boring! :)
I also know that Trainers have to keep things interesting for clients and they are always searching for new routines or uses for equipment or body positions. It is hard to keep things fresh but very necessary.
The body and mind get used to certain activities and they lose effectiveness and also become too routine. your muscles do not respond as well and they in your mind you may even quit or give up sooner because of boredom. It's not just because you do not want to do things it's a combination of diminishing results, lack of excitement and also your muscles adjusting as well.
Some tips to keep things fresh: * Alternate cardio and resistance days.
* Alternate muscle groups that you work and work some together like legs and arms with a Squat / bicep curl combo for example.
* Use in home fitness DVDs like P90X or ChaLEAN Extreme that teach you how to do different moves and change things up for you
* Change the resistance or add some
* Change the plan and routine every 30 days. even subtle changes make a difference!
Some tools I love are those In home DVDs. the Ultimate for Variety and for learning new moves to use as a Trainer is the Tony Horton 1 on 1 series. I love getting a new workout every month. Tony is a masterful trainer and has great use of minor equipment and body weight to keep you going and keep things fresh. Even some workouts to do on the go in hotels and in gyms. I highly recommend the series to anyone that Wants to change things up a bit. i love the DVD.
Here's a little clip about the series:

What are your Thoughts on Variety and how do you keep things fresh for you or your clients???
