This is that wonderful time of the year when stuffing our faces full of cookies, candy and pie sounds more interesting that jogging or hitting the weights. It's that wonderous time when we think to ourselves "I'll change these bad habits AFTER the new year comes." If you have been dieting, don't stop now. I'm not saying pass by on ALL the fattening goodies because that is just not realistic. Why do you want to go 10 steps backwards or set yourself up for failure? Have your favorite treats in MAJOR moderation. Don't go overboard and don't eat just to be doing something. This is the time of the year when we go out of our way to spend time with those we love. Food does no need to be the focal point, nor SHOULD it be. Your time, which is often hard to come by, is what is most important. Treasure those moments and treasure good health with those you care about. Love and will-power ... read more

It has been many moons since my last blog! I've been lost in a sea of bodybuilder thoughts for long enough now. After my complete year of competing I have had to sit back and analyze where I'm headed with this sport. Here is the scoop.
I've been compared with numerous ladies in my age category, and in some cases those who are much younger than I. It has made me question what I have to do to improve to trophy more and place better. It's made me wonder if it is possible for me to have "what it takes" to get there. That has been both good and not so good.
The good. I realize I do need to refine my stage presence as well as cut more for the comps. I do still have much to learn. I'm also perfectly happy to compete at my level for trophies, not money. I'm still doing this as a motivator to keep in optimal shape! I also want to be an example f... read more

Well, I almost bailed out this time. I'd been sick for over two weeks with a horrible sinus infection and lung issues that were pretty severe. I actually decided to go despite it all. Was it wise? I'm really not sure. Did I get first? Not even close. I went back to my first competition (which was now my 4th ever) to see how my improvements "stacked up" against the others. My back def. and V shape had improved very much. Legs, somewhat. All new ladies in my division from last year. It seemed they were quite slender with small body frames. Long and short of it is that I went home with a 4th place trophy. Being sick for so long made it difficult to follow pre-competition diet requirements. Cardio was impossible (I tried and got worse) so I was unable to cut as much. Things were all out of wack. I didn't want to be left with questions about how I might have done. I met a couple ... read more

After numerous weeks of consistant training and proper eating, the time finally grew near. Time to travel many miles from home to experience one of Jon Lindsay's NPC competitions. This one had been around for 22 years. The magnitude struck me just one week before. I had my duckies in a row well ahead of time.
It all began with the "height-in" and meeting on the Friday before. I pre-registered, therefore was able to get my height checked much more quickly. That was a plus. I filled out paperwork to purchase images and a video of the event (not required of course). I could tell by watching the video from the previous year that this videographer did know his trade. It was well done...I was sold. I received it only one week after the event. The video is a great tool for self-evaluation for future competitions. It was already pretty late when I left check-in, but I still had to get to ... read more

I will try to sum up how I'm feeling going into my third competition. I believe I am more prepared, muscular/defined, knowledgeable and more practiced! I have practiced my poses tons more this go around. I can only hope that I am refined enough for San Diego. This competition has been around for 22 years! It sounds like a big one. I have some butterflies...but I'm happy I do. That means I'm ready for another challenge. I am so ready to make this happen!! Can't wait to share when I get home :)
