What is Acai Berry? Scam Alert?

What is Acai Berry? Scam Alert? I'm sure you've recently been seeing lots of advertisements for the popular Acai Berry. Without looking into it, you could quickly assume that Acai Berry is the wonder-berry that makes everyone skinny, strong, and beautiful. That's what the ads get you thinking at least.

So what is an Acai Berry?

Acai Berry is a tiny round dark purplish fruit nearly 1 inch 25 mm in diameter that looks similar to a grape both in appearance and size, but has less pulp. Each berry contains a single large seed. When the berries are ripe, the outermost layer turns into a deep purple color or green depending on the type of Acai berry as well as its development.

The hard inner layer of the Acai berry fruit takes about 80% of the fruit while the fleshy part of the berry is the middle part that contains the pulp which is of a uniform thickness. Acai berries are the chief components of food for the Amazon people of Brazil.

What are the supposed Acai Berry Benefits?

Acai berry claims to have numerous health benefits such as improving mental clarity, supplying the body with essential vitamins, and also washes and detoxifies the body of infectious toxins. Acai Berry is also said to improve the immune system, enhance sexual desire and performance and help fight cancer. But wait, there's more. Acai Berry also claims to cure diabetes and helps with normalizing and regulating cholesterol levels.

Many of these beliefs are from ancient beliefs on the Acai Berry's benefits, but are they legitimate?

In my opinion, the Acai Berry craze is just a hoax. The berry is probably somewhat good for you, just like an apple or similar fruit, and then the supplement companies decided to jump on the next craze and release a bunch of scams. I just don't believe all the hype.

Sadly, these Acai Berry scams seem to be all over the place, so they must be doing well. Has anyone had any experience with Acai Berry or know of someone who's taken it? I could be wrong, but I just don't think it can live up to the claims.

I ate the Acai Berry Candy from GNC. I must say, it ie delicious! And I'm very critical of food. It tastes like what star burst are supposed to taste like. When you bite into it, it's really juicy, but doesn't have an artificial taste to it.

The only thing, I doubt you'd ever catch the baw buying a bag of candy for $15. I just ate the free sample.

That would be the ultimate claim of irony: This simple sugar fruit brings back your pancrease from the dead, helps the most chemically complex organ in your body and also has fatty acids wrapped in plenty of protein to scrape you blood vessels clean...that would be one heck of a find. Though I think it'd be published in the New England Journal of Medicine.
