Cardio Exercise = Great for the Heart, Not for Burning Fat

Cardio Exercise = Great for the Heart, Not for Burning Fat Most people have fallen victim to the common myth that girls are supposed to do cardio to lose weight. Cardiovascular exercise is great for your heart and your health, but not for your waistline.

The first thing you need to address is your diet. Find a calculator on the web for BMR (basal metabolic rate) then deduct 500 from your number. This is the number of calories you should be eating per day for weight loss. Make sure to eat good protein in the morning (hardboiled eggs are great) and spread your meals out so that you are eating 5-6 times per day.

In the gym, you need to be hitting the weights. Don't worry about coming out looking like a bodybuilder, the average female does not possess the testosterone to build huge muscles. A pound of muscle burns about 50 calories per day.

Imagine how much easier it would be to drop a few pounds if your body burned an extra 250 calories a day.

Both types of workouts are important for females. Jogging only targets certain muscle groups. Weights help tone up more specific areas that jogging won't zone in on as effectively. Weight lifting is especially important for older women who need to maintain a healthy bone density. I don't understand why you say that it is a myth that cardio helps your waistline. It is the best way to shed pounds since you burn tons of calories. This is especially true of someone that needs to shed a lot of weight. Why would you add muscle mass onto a person who is already putting so much stress on their joints? If you can do a weight workout that keeps your cardio up for an extended period of time, that's works even better. In the long run you really need a combination of the two (strength training and cardio) to change your figure. You also can't accomplish as much unless you change your diet as well. You hit the nail on the head with the protein factor. I struggle to keep up with those demands and I think others feel tired because they don't consume enough of it. Thanks for sharing.
