I know this is the wrong season to be writing about swimming, but I've been using my friend's indoor pool this winter to swim laps and I've found it to be a great alternative to running.
My friend and I have been swimming laps 3 days a week this winter in order to keep our girlish figures. While I enjoy running when it's nice out, during the cold winter it's not the most enjoyable exercise. Also, I've learned through reading fitness articles and through my own personal experience that swimming is so much easier on the joints. Swimming takes away the pressure on the knees that goes with running. Not only that, but you never have to worry about shin splints when swimming.
Here's some reasons why swimming is a great alternative to running:
1. Swimming is a lot funner - We've been very consistent with our swimming schedule and I think a lot of that is because we have fun doing it.
2. Swimming is easier on your joints - As I mentioned befo... read more

I've found that almost everyone has this problem. I hear tons of people say "once I get home from work I just have no energy to go to the gym, I crash." I've been there... I've crashed many times.
Here's some advice to help avoid fatique after work
Are you chugging coffee all day to get through work? If you are, try cutting way back, to zero ideally (over several weeks). Then take a shot of caffeine about 4 pm to pep you up for your workout.
Are you dieting? If you are starving yourself for calories by eating nothing but salad, you'll have no energy for exercising. Try having a carb snack right before you get off work (with your caffeine fix if you choose). Your fuel tank may be a little empty. I know many people have reported this using the popular atkin's diet. Low carb diets often leave you lacking energy. An afternoon carb-snack shouldn't hurt most diet plans and can out-weigh the negatives of sleeping through a workout.
If y... read more

I'm sure you've recently been seeing lots of advertisements for the popular Acai Berry. Without looking into it, you could quickly assume that Acai Berry is the wonder-berry that makes everyone skinny, strong, and beautiful. That's what the ads get you thinking at least.
So what is an Acai Berry?
Acai Berry is a tiny round dark purplish fruit nearly 1 inch 25 mm in diameter that looks similar to a grape both in appearance and size, but has less pulp. Each berry contains a single large seed. When the berries are ripe, the outermost layer turns into a deep purple color or green depending on the type of Acai berry as well as its development.
The hard inner layer of the Acai berry fruit takes about 80% of the fruit while the fleshy part of the berry is the middle part that contains the pulp which is of a uniform thickness. Acai berries are the chief components of food for the Amazon people of Brazil.
What are the supposed Acai Berry... read more

Most people have fallen victim to the common myth that girls are supposed to do cardio to lose weight. Cardiovascular exercise is great for your heart and your health, but not for your waistline.
The first thing you need to address is your diet. Find a calculator on the web for BMR (basal metabolic rate) then deduct 500 from your number. This is the number of calories you should be eating per day for weight loss. Make sure to eat good protein in the morning (hardboiled eggs are great) and spread your meals out so that you are eating 5-6 times per day.
In the gym, you need to be hitting the weights. Don't worry about coming out looking like a bodybuilder, the average female does not possess the testosterone to build huge muscles. A pound of muscle burns about 50 calories per day.
Imagine how much easier it would be to drop a few pounds if your body burned an extra 250 calories a day.... read more
